A little about me..

Marina Fire December 2003 A little more about me...
As you saw from the main page I have been a firefighter since 1982, almost my entire adult life.

Professionally:

I joined the Lakeshore Volunteer Fire Department in August of 1982. I became a professional firefighter in November of 1988, fulfilling a lifetime dream.

Initially I was assigned to Engine Company #31, I was promoted to Engineer in February 1991.

I remained at Engine #31 until I was promoted to Lieutenant in September 1996. I then moved around as a roving officer until November 1, 1996.

I was then assigned to Engine #51. I remained at Engine #51 until I as promoted to Captain in March 2004, I was then assigned to Safety One, at Fire Station #1, where I worked as the Incident Safety Officer assigned to the First Battalion.

In July 2005 I returned to Engine #51.

In July 2006, I was sent back to Safety One for a couple months, and reassigned in September 2006 to my current assignment as an instructor at the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Training Academy.

While my primary job is as an instructor, I now also split my time working in the Emergency Preparedness Division. My responsibilities their include helping to develop and train our local Incident Management Teams.

Personally:

I was married in September 1986 to my wife Karen, together we have two wonderful children, my daughter Keri and my son Ryan.

Prior to becoming a Firefighter I was employed at the Naval Aviation Depot, where I was an aircraft electrician . I came up through an apprenticeship program there out of high school. I worked at NADEP from September 1981 to November 1988.

I graduated from Edward H. White high school in Jacksonville, Florida in June 1982.

My career as a Firefighter has had its up and downs. Busy days and sleepless nights for twenty one years which makes family life tough at times. But I can think of no other career that can run the full gambit of emotions in one 24 hour work period, that of laughter, pride and camaraderie, followed by horror, frustration and even anger.

I have been fortunate to work with the greatest people on earth, my brothers and sister firefighters have always been there for me, no matter the situation. I am truly blessed, with the greatest job and two great families.

My eyes have seen too many tragedies, being deployed as a rescue worker to the areas devastated by Hurricane Charlie in South Florida, Hurricane Katrina in Mississippi, Hurricane Wilma in South Florida and as a firefighter deployed to the Palm Coast and Volusia county wildfires have made me appreciate my life so much more, and truly appreciate the line of work I have chosen.
